Pistons are produced from cast or forged, high-temperature resistant aluminum silicon alloys. There are three basic types of aluminium piston alloys. The standard piston alloy is a eutectic Al-12%Si alloy containing in addition approx. 1% each of Cu, Ni and Mg. Special eutectic alloys have been developed for improved strength at high temperatures.
